Galactic Attack is another excellent vertical shooter originally released in 1994 as "RayForce" for the Taito F3 arcade hardware. A year later the game was converted to the Saturn and in 1997 to the MS Windows OS PCs by Acclaim. The game was also published (and renamed) as "Layer Section" in Japan.

Galactic AttackSTORY / GAMEPLAY
A massive supercomputer called "Con-Human" was constructed sometime in the near future to govern the Earth's environmental systems. But Con-Human malfunctions, gets crazy and begins to construct corrupt clones of existing organisms, destroying their human masters and exterminating the nature intended to protect! Human survivors develop powerful ships like the RVA-818 X-LAY starfighter to fight the insane machine by destroying the now-infected Earth. You have only 2 weapons. You have a laser beam with which you hit enemies in the air or ground and guided missiles that lock and hit targets (up to 8) on the ground. Note that there is no energy bar on this game, rather than a one-hit shot. Fortunately, your firepower can increase quite easy, as long as you collect several power-ups and bonuses when shooting down specific upcoming enemies. Galactic Attack (or whatever it's called!) is actually a great shoot 'em up with flawless controls and its highly recommended!

GRAPHICS / SOUND
The game has impressive visuals detailed with loads of colors whilst the sprites move pretty fast and smooth on-screen without a glitch! The explosions are awesome and the backdrops are animated using great coloring and scaling effects! The game's sound rocks as well, offering plenty of arcade-style sound effects along with motivating background music!
